Can you explain your thesis in just three minutes?
3-Minute Thesis (3MT) is an annual competition held between PhD and Research Masters students at faculty, university, national and international levels. In only three minutes, using only a single static slide, students stand before an audience and summarise their research – what they’re doing, how they’re doing it, and why.
Competing in 3MT not only enhances your communication and presentation skills, but affords you a vital opportunity to publicise your research (and yourself) within both the
academic and corporate sphere.
This training session will cover the rules and regulations of the 3MT competition, give you tips on how to prepare your speech and present with confidence, and examine footage of previous competition winners to assess the strengths of their presentations.
Finally, you’ll be given an opportunity to present your research in a safe environment, without expectations, to the group.
If you’d like to participate, go to nupsa.edu.au/online-workshops a few minutes before the session starts and click ‘Enter the Online Clubhouse’. You should check your webcam and microphone are working if you’d like to use these during the breaks (in addition to text chat).
Each of our 3MT training sessions is identical, but you are welcome to attend multiple sessions if you’d like additional opportunities to practice presenting.
