Can you explain your thesis in just three minutes?
3-Minute Thesis (3MT) is an annual competition held between PhD and Research Masters students at faculty, university, national and international levels. In only three minutes, using only a single static slide, students stand before an audience and summarise their research – what they’re doing, how they’re doing it, and why.
Competing in 3MT not only enhances your communication and presentation skills, but affords you a vital opportunity to publicise your research (and yourself) within both the academic and corporate sphere.
This training session will cover the rules and regulations of the 3MT competition, give you tips on how to prepare your speech and present with confidence, and examine footage of previous competition winners to assess the strengths of their presentations.
Finally, you’ll be given an opportunity to talk about your research in a safe environment, without expectations, in front of the group.
Each of our 3MT training sessions is more or less identical, but you are welcome to attend multiple sessions if you’d like additional opportunities to practice presenting.
