Bus Trip, BBQ and Beach Safety
December 12 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Among Newcastle’s greatest attractions are its beaches. If you’re new to this city, there’s nothing like the experience of the warm sun, the cool water and the sand in your toes, not to mention the rock pools, fishing spots and stunning views from the headland.
But the ocean can also be dangerous, so it’s important that you understand all the relevant rules and regulations, know when and where it is safe to swim, and how to get assistance if you need it.
To help you become beach-safe and have some fun, we’ve organised a session with a Hunter Surf Life Saving instructor at Dixon Park, overlooking the ocean. A bus will leave from the Maths Bus Stop at Callaghan campus at 10.15am sharp; we strongly recommend you get there by 10am so we can take a roll call, and don’t leave without you.
The session at Dixon Park will commence at 11am, if you’re making your own way there.
Afterwards, we’re hosting a BBQ in the park! Have some lunch, have a chat, and go down to the beach for a walk if you like.
The bus will leave Dixon Park to return to Callaghan at 2pm. Also, bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen – beach safety includes safety from the sun!
