Careers Workshop (Callaghan): Your Academic Identity
May 17 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
It’s on again! After their enormously popular workshop series last year, the Careers and Student Development team has once again partnered with NUPSA to run a series of sessions aimed at improving your employability and career success. This time, their focus is on online presence, networking and the changing world of careers.
With most employers now seeking and screening potential applicants online, it’s critical that you understand the online job market and how to best present yourself within it. Social platforms like LinkedIn are increasingly important, as is your ability to build your ‘brand’, be it in academia or industry.
These four sessions, delivered both as on-campus workshops and online webinars over four weeks in May, will improve your resilience, creativity and adaptability in the current job market.
Session 1: Market Yourself Online for Success (May 10)
This sessions looks at the relevance of social media to the job search process and in recruitment practices, and will assist you in creating and optimising your LinkedIn and Researcher profiles.
Session 2: Your Academic Identity (May 17)
This session will explore how to develop your brand and network within academia and industry.
Session 3: Translate your HDR (May 24)
It’s easy to talk about your research to other researchers, but how do you translate it to industry? Identifying the skills and language employers are after is crucial to gaining employment. Learn the differences.
Session 4: Career Creativity (May 31)
This final workshop will look at career and job search resilience when transitioning from your HDR to your dream job, with a focus on Portfolio Careers.
Each Thursday session will be delivered on campus in ES203 (Engineering Precinct, Callaghan) from 1pm, and then again as an online webinar through NUPSA’s website from 3pm.
