Bus Trip to Irukandji Shark and Ray Encounters
February 21 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Ever wanted to pet a shark? Hug a manta ray? Well, now’s your chance: for O-Week this year, we’ve organised a bus trip to Irukandji Shark and Ray Encounters!
Irukandji is a unique, interactive aquarium. You won’t just look at these amazing creatures through a pane of glass; you’ll be able to step into shallow pools with them, touch them, feed them and interact with them directly. Ordinarily, feeding a natural predator in the wild has several risks, from damaging delicate ecological systems to influencing the behaviors of these animals to associate humans with food. Irukandji takes away that danger with a wide array of friendly sharks and rays, just bursting to say hello!
The bus will leave from the Design Bus Stop (Callaghan) at 9.30am sharp. Please be there no later than 9.15am, so we can grab your details and fill out our attendance sheet. If you’d like to get in the pool with the animals, please bring swimwear, a towel and a dry change of clothes, and do not wear your own swimsuit, snorkel or any creams, lotions or repellents. (Their aquatic habitat can be badly affected by these.)
On the way back to campus, we’ll be stopping by a set of roadside cafes and outlets, so you can grab lunch. It’s going to be a fantastic day!
To help us cover the cost of this event, tickets are $10 each. You’ll be prompted to enter payment details when you register.
