Workshop: Aussie Culture and Slang

July 11 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

If you’re new to Australia, there may be a lot of words/phrases, mannerisms, activities, cultural quirks and points of etiquette that seem a little strange – or, let’s be honest, downright crazy. We have particular ways of interacting here, and getting the hang of these can really help you settle in and make new friends and connections.

To assist you with this, we’ve partnered with Sonia Carpenter from the UON Language Centre to run a workshop on Aussie culture and slang! Through a series of discussions, videos and games/activities, Sonia will teach you about:

  • Aussie accents/pronunciation (hot tip: flatten your vowels!)
  • Aussie slang (i.e. how to abbreviate everything)
  • Sarcasm (or saying the opposite of what you actually mean)
  • Aussie food (Vegemite and lamingtons, it’s all very fancy)

Come along, have some fun and learn to say bloody hell! like a native.
