Yoga Nidra – Relaxation Session
June 4 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Yoga Nidra is a powerful type of passive meditation, which is often briefly included at the end of yoga classes. The word Nidra translates to ‘sleep’, however the practice of Yoga Nidra leads to a deep meditative state, not actual sleep.
All that is required is to lie down in a comfortable and warm position, and listen to the teacher who will guide you verbally through the Yoga Nidra process. In this meditative state, the body and mind experience a state of deep rest, which initiates the relaxation response (the opposite of the stress response experienced during exam time).
There is scientific research that shows the practice of Yoga Nidra significantly reduces stress and anxiety. By practising Yoga Nidra, you will find an increased capacity to to concentrate, learn and recall information and maintain high levels of energy, whilst remaining calm.
This workshop is led by psychologist and student counsellor Richard Thorpe, who is also a certified yoga teacher and Yoga Nidra instructor.
Please bring a yoga mat, towel or blanket to lie on during the session. Also, be sure to wear warm clothing, since entering a meditative state can lower your body temperature.
