If you saw a whirlwind of student activity at the Auchmuty Courtyard last Thursday at noon, here was its epicentre: a delectable feast of Thai dishes, sponsored by several local restaurants and presented by a dedicated group of Thai students, in honour of His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, King of Thailand, who recently passed away.
The event began with a beautiful presentation and display; those leading it were dressed respectfully in black, and as students flocked to the food stall, were only too happy to talk to them about King Adulyadej and Thai culture. The lines grew with astonishing speed, all the way to the Shortland Building entrance, and within fifteen minutes, everything was eaten.
This event was run as part of The Space, NUPSA’s weekly social activities group for postgraduate students and their families. We’re grateful to Andrew Mcrae and UON Global (who donated bowls, cutlery and other supplies), Aaron Culbertson and Student Central, to the restaurants and other providers who donated their incredible food – Ms Thitaporn Keinwong, Ms Kanokwan Moolnan, Mr Weera Srijan, Mixed Spice Thai, Jairuk Thai Kitchen, Sticky Rice Thai and The Grain Thai Restaurant – and, of course, to Benjaporn Janklai and all the other students who generously donated their time in planning and facilitating the event.
