Call for submissions! Tell us about your queer heroes!
We’re looking for any members of the UON student community who want to give recognition to their queer heroes, or ‘Queeroes’. These could be people who’ve supported and inspired you as a queer person, or a member of the queer community whose efforts and achievements you’d really like to acknowledge.
Queeroes can be anyone – from celebrities and pioneers to friends and family, ordinary people doing extraordinary things for others. And you don’t have to be LGBTIQA+ yourself to submit something; perhaps you’ve become more engaged with the queer community through the actions of a queero.
Ultimately, we’re aiming to put together a series of videos and testimonials to present during Pride Week later in the year: a collection of amazing stories, queer people talking about their heroes and queer people being heroes! We want to recognise those who have given to the LGBTIQA+ community, comforted us when we needed it, and made our journeys a little easier.
Your submission could be a written piece on who your queero is and why, or it could be a video/audio recording, a song, a poem, or any other mixed media you like. (It can also be anonymous; if you specify, we can leave your name off your submission in the final collection.)
We’ll also invite those with the best (non-anonymous) submissions to participate in a short video interview next month; these interviews will be played and uploaded during Pride Week to share your incredible stories with other students and staff.
Send your submissions (or any questions) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Submissions can be any length/duration. The deadline is Thursday, May 30.
