Online Strength Training Class

An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Tuesday and Thursday, repeating until June 25, 2020
These sessions are funded by the University of Newcastle Community Drug Action Team (CDAT).
In addition to our weekly online Zumba classes (and NUSA’s weekly yoga sessions), we’ve also organised a series of online strength training classes with Stephen Hogan! We’ll let Stephen himself describe these to you:
“Hi everyone, my name is Stephen Hogan and I’m a qualified sports and exercise scientist. I’ve been a trainer for over 10 years now, during which time I’ve trained beginners through to national level athletes, and everyone in between. I currently run a large personal training studio where we offer bootcamps, strength and conditioning, general health training and body transformations.
With the introduction of lockdown and the closure of all gyms, I understand just how hard it has become for many of us to stay fit and healthy. The lovely people at NUPSA have asked if I can provide all of you with some online strength training to help you keep moving over the coming weeks.
The online program will be designed so that it does not require any equipment – you can even do it barefoot. My goal will be to provide a balanced strength training program across all the primary muscle groups, guiding you through progressions for bodyweight exercises. This program will help improve your mind muscle connection so you can better understand what exercises should be doing what, and to ensure you get the best possible results out of the exercises.
This program has been designed with you in mind and I cannot wait for us all to get started!”

For safety purposes, registration for these online classes is essential. As part of registering for your first session, you’ll need to quickly fill out an Adult Pre-Exercise Screening System (APSS) form (page 1 only) and Online Informed Consent Form, both of which are online (just click the links); you’ll be prompted to attach the completed forms when you register. (You can skip that step for all subsequent sessions.)
These are just simple safety precautions, and are something you’d fill out before starting any kind of training with a personal fitness trainer.
The sessions will take place in our Online Clubhouse, which you can access through the Online Workshops page of our website. Please make sure you enter the room ten minutes early (and using your full name as your user name), so we have time to check everyone off and go through relevant safety information before we begin. Make sure you keep your webcam and microphone off throughout the session, so that everyone can follow Stephen more easily.
The series will run for six weeks (twelve sessions). These sessions will also be recorded, and made available through our Online Workshops page!
